Atacama Desert - More Monday

DSC01224.jpg

Although one part of the Atacama Desert is known as the driest place on earth, this region of northern Chile is varied in its landscape.

The are hundreds of square miles of sand, dotted with patches of salt flats, salt lagoons, plant life and of course the mountains to the east and west. I visited in early January. Summer in this part of the world. Temperatures were in the mid-80s(F). Driving through the region provided no shortage of spectacular views that leave you humbled by nature.

I’ll have a complete essay on my visit and more photographs Monday.
