Salt Lake

DSC01185.jpg

After millions of years of bone dry weather and a warm prevailing wind nature creates salt flats and in some cases salt lakes in desert climates.

When I visited the salt lagoons of the Atacama Desert in Chile the wind was warm, but strong. The glare from the white sand and salt reflected the sun onto my skin and I could feel it drying out in the desert heat. You would not want to stay out here too long unprotected from the sun. Almost nothing lives in or around the salt lagoons except for a few bird species and some tall grasses.
