Santiago, Chile

The major cities I visited in South America all had a special feel to them. As if they knew something I didn’t know.

As if these old cities, that have thrived for hundreds of years understand that the people of North America pay little attention to them. And that’s fine, because while we have been looking the other way they have been going about their business and making their own history.

Of course Santiago, Chile has not been left alone by the United States or Europe over the years, but the people don’t seem to hold any grudges about past interference. Currently they are more concerned with the shortcomings of their own government and have been protesting daily for a new constitution.

The tropical quiet of the daytime is replaced by sometimes violent street protests each night.
