Brute Force vs. Compromise

I would like to think that common sense will point American political leaders back toward a spirit of compromise as this new year begins.

Brute force - the last four years have proven - is of limited value when leading a democracy.

Collapse, retreat, capitulation, and a low threshold for criticism from your political base; are each detrimental to finding, or forcing, middle ground policy that works for the entire country. Compromise is not detrimental. It is how our system of government was born and it is the cornerstone on which it is supposed to rest.

Going it alone almost always fails. And even if it doesn’t fail, what are you left with? A nation divided.
