Tierra del Fuego
The southern peaks of the Andes Mountains tower over the port town of Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego.
It is the last city at the tip of South America. A frequent starting point for voyages to Antarctica.
The region is largely unspoiled by man and it is not hard to imagine how it must have looked to the first European explorers who ventured through in the early 1500’s. They named it Tierra del Fuego - Land of Fire - because of the many fires burning on shore built by indigenous people to keep warm.
