School Girls

While walking through a tea estate in Darjeeling I saw these four school girls approaching.

I got down on one knee and waited for them to step into my frame but I could see they were shy about having their pictures taken so I only took a few from this distance. I don’t like to take pictures of people when they clearly don’t want to be photographed.

Since I was in a foreign country I couldn’t be sure if these girls were just shy or if there was some cultural reason they didn’t want to be photographed. The way they responded when they saw the camera made it feel like it was more than shyness.
