Tradition

Who knows for how long, but for a long time, people have been selling fresh fish at this street market in the center of Sa Pa, Vietnam.

This young woman, in her 20’s I estimate, just took an order for a fresh fish from a customer and is cutting it up live inside the white box. The blade is heavy and old and she makes quick work of the large catch of the day.

The helmet she is wearing is typical of the helmets worn by scooter riders across the country. They are minimalist with an equestrian cut. I’m not sure how effective they would be in a crash (I thankfully haven’t seen one), but they meet the minimum requirement for riders to have a helmet.
