Running the Yellow Line

In those rare instances when you can find a rolling and turning country road with no traffic, there’s a special feeling that comes from taking over the center of that road and running the yellow line.

You look ahead to where the line meets the next hill and set a goal. You look down at your feet as they strike the paint, and through your shoes, your toes can feel the difference between the smooth texture of the line and the harder pavement. As you push off for the next stride, you kick another few feet of the line behind you and you might imagine you are painting the line yourself. You listen, but hear only the sound of your stride, you feel only the strength of your lungs, you see only the line, and you imagine where it might take you.
