American Overlook
At the highest point on the farm, on a hill overlooking hundreds of acres of crop land, an Illinois family carries on, preparing for the next season of planting. There is no end to the chores regardless of the time of year.
The trees, planted originally to shade the house and keep it cool in summer, stand bare under the gray winter sky. The utility poles, erected first, to string telegraph wire, carry power and internet service to this homestead and throughout the midwest.
When the warm weather returns, the fields will be ready and the work of this farm will continue anonymously, but in plain sight.
