Ushuaia

Near the southernmost tip of South America is the small city of Ushuaia.

Just outside its port lies the Beagle Channel, the ribbon of water that connects the South Atlantic with the South Pacific. Presumably, somewhere around the halfway point, those two great waters mix.

As your boat moves through the channel, at certain points, you can see Argentina on one side and Chile on the other.

The land is barren and unforgiving. The water is clear and cold and the wind is hard.

Here and there, along the shoreline, you will spot remnants of civilization slowly being reclaimed by nature. Devoured really. It is a challenge to live here. It is exhilarating to visit. But a part of you realizes you don’t belong.
