Delhi Spice Market

There may be no better demonstration of how the old mixes with the new in India than in the spice market in Old Delhi. This is a wholesale and retail market where you can buy things by the bushel, the ox drawn cart, or one banana at a time.

Both men and animals are enlisted to move heavy loads of spices and other foods up and down the long street which is covered with a sheen of water and garbage rotting in the sun. It is a calm yet chaotic place. There is lots of waiting for customers and there is lots of loud haggling once a customer arrives.

Everywhere you will see these decorated bulls waiting for their chance to pull.
