The Streets of Saigon

Similar to Hanoi, there seems to be no plan to the layout and architecture of Saigon.

For the most part, it is a city that just builds on itself. Parts of it crumble as the years go by and something new is just stuck in to the empty spot that temporarily appears. Also like Hanoi, every inch of usable space is put to use. Sometimes by people who actually own the property and sometimes by people who just find a place on a public street and claim it as their own.

Street food vendors are the biggest squatters with the most reliable customers. Saigon residents seem more likely to take their meals on random sidewalks as eating at home or in a more formal restaurant. While in Vietnam, I found the best way to find reliably good and safe street food was to watch where the locals ate and follow their lead.
