Street Character
Architecture puts the street in street photography.
The aesthetic of certain buildings, their arrangement and their interaction with one another are also a big part of what makes a neighborhood desirable as a place to live, work and hang out. Take Greenwich Village. There is a reason people have congregated here over the decades, desire to live here, and like to tell their friends it’s where they hang out.
Whether people think of it in these terms or not, they are attracted to places like Greenwich Village because they are visually pleasing. It’s visually pleasing to see it and it’s visually pleasing to be seen in it. The light and shadow of the place has the character of a painting. The combination gives the neighborhood its character and attracts people who define it further.
